I take pride in helping clients look beyond the price in order to find a health insurance plan that will truly meet their needs from both a cost and benefits perspective. Independent health insurance agents are licensed by the state and represent their client, the policyholder, not a specific company. As an independent agent, I have the freedom to attain coverage from multiple carriers, and can develop an individualized plan for the needs of my client. What many people don't realize is that they will pay the same policy premium whether or not they purchase the policy through an independent health broker, or directly from a carrier. The broker is paid a commission that is included in all policy premiums, and knowing this, the decision to choose a broker that is looking out for the client's best interest is appealing. The advantages of working with an independent broker also apply versus the "big box" internet health insurance retail sites. These "ehealth" type sites do not have access to all of the quality health plan carriers in South Carolina, and will generally swamp you in a deluge of prices. Typically, these "big box" health insurance sites highlight only the low cost, low benefit, plans, without any respect to factors such as networks, underwriting considerations, and coverage limitations.
